The Polaroid 20X24 Camera

I’ve been fascinated for decades by the Polaroid 20 X 24 camera. According to this wonderful article from Monday’s New York Times, there are only five of these “wooden behemoths” in existence. Production of the Polaroid film was discontinued years ago, and now the supply is dwindling. In an era of camera miniaturization, it’s intriguing to ponder a photographic device that “weighs as much as an N.F.L. linebacker and looks, from certain vantage points, like a 1970s liquor cabinet.”

An upcoming documentary by Errol Morris features Polaroid portraitist Elsa Dorfman, whose imminent retirement was profiled in a January 2016 Times article.
